Enterpret Olympics: The Sports Apps Showdown

The 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympics are underway, uniting the global community as we cheer on remarkable displays of strength, spirit, and skill.

Our team was inspired by the fun and competitive nature of the Olympics and decided to host a spin on the festivities with the first Enterpret Olympics: The Sports Apps Showdown.

While NBC owns coverage of the Olympics in the USA, there are many sports app options on the market for all things sports. We decided to take the top five sports apps in the market and have them compete for the gold. Why five you ask? To symbolize the 5 rings of the Olympic symbol, of course 🙂.

In this Olympic-style showdown, we'll use Enterpret to analyze public feedback about these sports app and determine which one deserves the gold, silver, and bronze!

The Sport App Contenders

We started with 5 of the most popular sports apps based on the number of app downloads on the Play Store and App Store:

How the Enterpret Olympics are Played

We kicked things off by connecting 6 months of reviews from the App Store and Play Store for all 5 competitors into Enterpret. From there we:

  1. Summarized top insights for each sports app using Wisdom.
  2. Judged how they stacked up in these four events:
    • Event 1: User Experience
    • Event 2: App Performance
    • Event 3: Sports Coverage
    • Event 4: Value
  3. Awarded the Gold, Silver, and Bronze winner of the Enterpret Olympics: Sports App Showdown!

Before we get started, please note that we are using insights from 6 months of public feedback and the final standings are based on a very specific data set. Now, let's go!

Event 1: User Experience

Gold: FOX Sports

Fox Sports users had a lot of positive feedback on the user-friendly interface and intuitive navigation of the app. Like this user, many folks found the layout to be simple and easy to navigate to the content they cared about most.

Silver: NBC Sports

NBC Sports users praise the app but took issue with non-related sports content being included in the app experience. This user cites just that and suggests some design improvements are in order.

Bronze: Fubo TV

While facing some issues around being able to personalize their experience, the Fubo TV is considered superior to the other two contenders, CBS and ESPN. CBS and ESPN ranked lower due to issues with usability and excessive ads.

Event 2: App Performance

Gold: FOX Sports

A majority of Fox Sports users shared that the app is stable and efficient to use. Many users like the one below, share that using Fox Sports works well and makes it an enjoyable way to watch games.

Silver: NBC Sports

NBC Sports users highlight their satisfaction of the app's performance for all types of sporting events - even live and international. This user like many others specifically highlighted quality images and audio.

Bronze: ESPN

ESPN is a favorite but inconsistent performance keeps it from being at the top of the podium for this event. We saw a trend where users highlighted glitches and issues with freezing that seemed to be attributed to a new release.

Event 3: Sports Coverage

Gold: NBC Sports

NBC Sports wins the gold for sports coverage. Many users like the one below highlighted how pleased they were with NBC's comprehensive sports coverage and quality live events.

Silver: FOX Sports

Fox Sports users also highlighted extensive and quality sports coverage as well as a deep love for the timely updates. There were notably less mentions of live sports which brought their place down to silver.

Bronze: ESPN

ESPN users love the combined coverage of stats, news, replays and more. However some issues with the app in addition to the disconnect with its web presence, bring it down to the third place.

Event 4: Value

Gold: FOX Sports

Fox Sports users find the app valuable even with TV provider limitations and some paywalls for accessing live games, shows, news, and highlights - many mentioned it being worth it.

Silver: NBC Sports

NBC Sports is seen by users as providing good value, especially with its extensive coverage of live events. However, many users cited issues that ads even when they have a paid subscription detracts from the overall value.

Bronze: CBS Sports

While CBS Sports has some critics around recent struggles with value perception due to excessive ads and functionality issues there is still a deep love for the CBS Sports app as this user shares.

Enterpret Olympics Medal Tally

We use the point system to determine the gold, silver, and bronze Enterpret Olympic winners:

  • Gold = 3 points
  • Silver = 2 points
  • Bronze = 1 point

The Gold Goes to….

Gold: FOX Sports
FOX Sports stood out across all categories, particularly excelling in user experience, app performance, and live sports coverage. It consistently provided a top-notch experience for users, making it the overall winner.

Silver: NBC Sports
NBC Sports delivered strong performance in live sports coverage and user experience. However, some issues with app performance and value, primarily due to ads and subscription requirements, prevented it from claiming the top spot.

Bronze: ESPN
ESPN showed strengths in live sports coverage but faced challenges with app performance and user experience. Despite these issues, it still provided a substantial amount of sports content, earning it a place on the podium.

We hope you enjoyed the first Enterpret Olympics! As the excitement of the Paris Olympics and Paralympics continues, we hope you enjoy the games and wish the best of luck to all the athletes!
